Memsmart Semiconductor, a Taiwan-based fabless IC design company, has begun mass production of CMOS-MEMS accelerometers (g-sensors), according to company president Eason Chiu. The company is initially targeting China's consumer electronics market.
Memsmart launched its first g-sensor dies in April 2007 and g-sensor wafers towards the end of January this year. Its upstream OEMs and backend companies include Vanguard International Semiconductor (VIS), XinTec, Lingsen Precision Industries (LPI) and King Yuan Electronics Company (KYEC), according to industry sources.
Memsmart is also preparing to enter China's white-box handset market with its low-cost and small-size g-sensor products expected to be launched in June, Chiu added.
